I feel extremely proud of the seamless and well orchestrated military actions and the defence prowess demonstrated by India during the recent operations. However, I suspect that at the end of the day we have somewhat degraded our standing as a military power. Pakistan did not appear as hapless as we thought it would and was almost mirroring our offensive actions. Moreover, Pakistan took the initiative to call the international media and highlight the damages they purportedly did to Indian assets, while we did nothing to showcase our achievements before the world. The stock prices of Chinese producer of aircrafts, Chengdu soared 40% and Dassault dipped by 7% yesterday for the same reasons.
We were baited by the crisis created by Pakistan and in order to avenge the lives of 26 Indians, we have lost more than double the number of lives, we have perhaps lost fighter jets and most importantly exposed the chinks in our armour, by shattering the image of invincibility that Pakistan carried about India and was mortally scared of, because of the hi-tech weaponry held in our arsenal. Also, when we have a terrorist attack again in J&K (which will happen, we know) are we going to go through this again and jeopardize the lives of civilians every time? Last night again parts of Punjab observed a blackout when some drones were spotted (we will always have to remain on high alert even along the IB now).
It is important for us to understand that this was not a conflict between India and Pakistan, but it was between India and China (with its 4.5 Gen J-10C fighter jets, highly lethal PL-15 missiles, BeiDou Satellite constellation providing real time information of the battle space to Pak military, highly effective Electronic Warfare systems for jamming and blinding us, AD grid support backed by China, etc), Turkey sent aeroplane loads of military hardware, including Drones that swarmed our skys.
No one came to our support, can we figure out why? Pakistan was able to shape the minds and perception of the Arab world by building on the ongoing domestic rhetoric and making this an attack by a Hindu nation on a Muslim state. That is when countries like Turkey, Azarbaijan and Iran openly came to support Pakistan. We know how strongly Bangladesh stands with Pakistan and most other neighbouring countries clearly have a leaning towards Pakistan. Hence, our diplomacy and international relations requires a rethink to garner authentic international support during such crisis situations.
Rather than sabre rattling and going gaga over our instant glory, it is an important time for us to introspect, accept the flaws and reorient our operational doctrines to cater to this one front war, which is substantially reinforced by China and many Arab nations.
I may sound like dousing the national euphoria at this moment of glory for us, but I feel it is always better to be safe/ prepared than sorry when reality hits us hard next.
